Troops Survive IED Blast, MEK Members Abducted
Task Force Baghdad troops managed to escape an attack on their Bradley fighting vehicle without injury on August 13th after an improvised explosive device (IED) hit their vehicle in Sadr City, Baghdad. Soldiers exited the vehicle after the attack and secured the area, while Baghdad civil defense responders tried to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were forced to dodge exploding ammunition as they put the fire out, but they were ultimately successful and the Bradley was towed away.
Meanwhile, two members of Iranian opposition group Mujahedin-e Khalq were abducted on August 4th, constituting a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Multinational Force Iraq officials have requested that Iraqi police investigate the matter.
