Constitution Delay Won’t Affect Operations
Army General George W. Casey Jr stated that the delay in writing the Iraqi constitution won’t affect operations, noting the Iraqi National Assembly “needed more time to get it done better than they had it.” Casey added that he hasn’t requested more troops for Iraq’s upcoming elections as he did for the January 30th election, but it’s still a possibility. Iraqi divisions are reportedly already established, but division commanders have only administrative, not operational, control. Iraqi soldiers are said to have improved significantly in basic infantry skills over the last six months.
