Bush: Seeking “Total Victory” Over Terrorism
President Bush spoke to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Salt Lake City yesterday, stressing that the only acceptable outcome for the war in Iraq is “total victory” over terrorists. The president said that insurgents wish to establish a Taliban-like regime in Iraq from which they can launch new attacks on the U.S, but “will fail” as U.S. troops attack the terrorists where they live before they can attack American citizens. He also noted the increased responsibility the Iraqis are taking on in securing and running their country, and said that writing the “landmark” constitution is a complex process, as the writing of the American Constitution was.
