George Allen

George Felix Allen was born March 8th, 1952, in Whitter, California, the son of legendary NFL coach George Allen. Considering himself a “common sense Jeffersonian Conservative,” Allen has set four priorities as U.S. Senator from Virginia: strengthening homeland security, increasing competitiveness for well-paying jobs, advocating policies to establish America as a leader in technology, and reducing the tax burden on families and small businesses. He’s created jobs as a member of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee, advocated technology-advancement policies as Chairman of the Senate High Task Force, and created the Internet Tax Nondiscrimination Act, which the Senate passed in 2004 to prevent the Internet from being subject to taxes.

In the interest of strengthening homeland security, Senator Allen sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, bringing his knowledge of military assets and Virginia’s defense industry into play. He’s also a supporter of the men and women of the Armed Forces, having introduced a bill to Congress this year that would raise the death benefit for families of solidiers killed in action from $12,000 to $100,000. Senator Allen also serves on the Energy and National Resources Committee where he is trying to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil and find an environmentally secure energy plan for Virginia and America.

Before being elected Senator, Allen served as Governor of Virgina from 1994 to 1998, where he improved Virginia’s educational system by implementing new rigorous academic standards. He also revamped the juvenile justice system, worked for welfare reform, and brought hundreds of thousands of jobs to Virginia by expanding and relocating technology and manufacturing companies.

Senator Allen holds a bachelor’s degree in History as well as a law degree from University of Virginia. He lives with his wife Susan in Fairfax County, VA, with their three children.
